Sometimes choosing the right colours for your home can seem a little daunting, particularly if you want to experiment and avoid neutral tones. We asked top interior designer Mark Howorth from international design company Callender Howorth to provide his top tips for creating a scheme using strong colour.
Here are Mark’s top tips for creating a strong colour scheme:
‘Colour is a very personal thing, as people know what they like and don’t like. It also depends on the style of the house and the spaces involved. But don’t be scared of rich, warm and dark colours. Some people say that “oh but this will make the room seem smaller.” In fact strong colour can add massive impact and a real wow factor.
‘For example: in Georgian properties that have marvellous architraves and skirting’s – dark, warm grey walls look excellent against a crisp white skirting board and architrave detail.
‘It is always good to think about feature walls – either a paper design or a rich paint colour. This can be complemented in the soft furnishings and cushions.
‘It’s a good idea when using a darker colour to paint some samples on lining paper and stick them on the wall for a week or so to see which looks best and to also get used to the idea.’
